Purpose of Life
Allah says in the Quran,
‘Did you think that We had created you in play (without any purpose), and that you would not be brought back to Us?” So Exalted be Allah, the True King: La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He), the Lord of the Supreme Throne!’
[Al-Mu’minun 23:115, 116]
We can understand from this that Allah has not created anything in vain, be it the heavens and the earth or jinn and mankind. Like every created thing has a creator and a purpose, Allah created man with a purpose in this life.
Firstly Allah did not create us to just eat and drink and multiply in this world. Allah has created men and honoured and favoured them far above the other creations. Many people fail to realize this and run behind the mere pleasures of this world. The life of such people is like that of animals and indeed they are more astray.

We can relate to the following verse,
‘Leave them to eat and enjoy, and let them be preoccupied with (false) hope. They will come to know!’
[Al-Hijr 15:3]
Secondly, Allah has created us to test us. Allah has told us that the creations of the heavens and the earth and of life and death is to test man. Those who obey Him will be rewarded and those who disobey Him will be punished.
Who has created death and life that He may test you which of you is best in deed. And He is the All-Mighty, the Oft-Forgiving’
[Al-Mulk 67:2]
Thirdly, Allah created us to worship Him alone. Allah says in the Quran,
And I (Allah) created not the jinn and mankind except that they should worship Me (Alone)’
[Al-Dhariyat 51:56]
This is simply straightforward. The important reason why Allah created mankind is the common to affirm His oneness and to worship Him alone without associating any partners.
Islam is the only response to the search for meaning of life. The purpose of creation of all men and women of all times is one: To Know and Worship Allah ﷻ. Our universe and all elements in it run in harmony only by submitting to the physical laws set by Allah ﷻ, the Supreme Creator. Only when humans worship Allah ﷻ, submitting to Him and His divine laws, can people have peace and harmony in their lives and the hope for heaven. If the concept of hope for heaven is removed then life loses its ultimate value and purpose.
